SOURCES & REVIEW

Editorial & Data Methodology

How CarboxylicAcids.com handles scientific references, supplier specifications and editorial interpretation.

Scientific Sources

A citation is useful only when it supports the particular identity, condition and claim. We prioritize condition-defined evaluated data and authoritative chemical or regulatory records, then relevant peer-reviewed literature and direct manufacturer specifications.

NIST is especially useful for evaluated aqueous acid–base data. PubChem provides chemical identities and attributed compiled records. ECHA and applicable FDA/eCFR, USP or FCC specifications provide regulatory or compendial context where relevant. Their inclusion here does not mean every product is approved or every page has a complete compendial review.

Conditions Matter

Acid–base values

For pKa, retain temperature, solvent, ionic strength and the source’s activity or concentration convention where available. More decimal places do not compensate for unmatched conditions.

Physical properties

For solubility, density and melting/decomposition observations, check temperature, solvent, concentration, measurement method, chemical form, hydrate and stereoisomer. Reduced-pressure boiling values require their pressure.

Supplier Data & Pricing

Supplier records use direct commercial pages where possible. Grade, assay, package size and public price are recorded as displayed with their market and check date. Product destinations and document links remain distinct. Prices, specifications and documentation can change.

We retain regional currencies rather than force foreign-exchange conversions. Price normalization is withheld when products are not legitimately comparable; a quantity calculation alone does not establish equivalence. Certificate lookup availability is not evidence that a particular lot certificate has been reviewed.

Assay and Purity

Chemical measurements

Titration, GC and HPLC are different analytical methods. An HPLC area percentage is not automatically the same quantity as a mass-based chemical assay. Record the reported method and basis rather than collapse them into one generic purity number.

Solution & stereochemical measurements

A solution’s mass/mass concentration, total acid assay, free-monomer content and water content can be distinct specifications. Optical purity or enantiomeric excess measures stereochemical composition and must remain separate from chemical assay.

Product Identity

Anhydrous and hydrate forms have different composition and formula weight. A free acid is distinct from its salts and esters. L, D, DL and meso identities, or cis/trans geometry where applicable, are part of the specification. A solution is not the neat substance.

The directory uses overlapping structural attributes rather than mutually exclusive folders. Mandelic is both aromatic and hydroxy; malic and tartaric are both hydroxy and dicarboxylic. A chiral molecular structure does not mean a commercial sample is enantiopure.

Safety

Profiles provide concise, chemical-specific hazard context. The exact product’s current applicable SDS remains the handling reference: match concentration, formulation, supplier, product code and jurisdiction. Supplier hazard classifications can differ.

Safety context is not a complete risk assessment or a substitute for handling, storage, first-aid and disposal instructions. Formulated food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical applications do not establish that the concentrated raw material is harmless.

Current review coverage

Citric, lactic, oxalic, salicylic, L-(+)-tartaric and fumaric received a source-checking and correction pass in this project. The other nine batch profiles retain their existing content pending the same source-checking pass. The approved Malonic profile is also preserved. Inclusion in the directory does not imply a completed source audit of every profile.

Conflicting Data

When sources disagree, first check identity, hydrate state, stereoisomer, temperature, solvent, concentration basis, ionic strength and measurement method. Do not choose a number simply because a source exists or assume temperature explains every discrepancy.

If the cause remains unresolved, disclose what is missing and qualify or omit the disputed reference value. Avoid presenting an unresolved entry as a recommended saturation or design constant. Internal review distinguishes verified, condition-dependent, resolved editorial choices, unresolved conflicts and omitted values.

Editorial vs Commercial Separation

Scientific interpretation, application qualifications and buyer guidance remain independent of supplier placement. Supplier tables are not rankings. There are no paid placements at present; any future sponsorship will be labeled and will not change the scientific review.

Each substantive application should distinguish direct use of the free acid from a manufacturing intermediate, derivative use or biological context. A polymer or salt’s application must not be attributed to the free acid without evidence.

Site Operation & Privacy

Directory and comparison controls work in your browser. Sourcing briefs prepare local information and downloads; they do not send enquiries to suppliers. Fonts are served locally. No optional tracking services are active.
